Track & Rail Repair

It’s imperative to maintain the rail your inclinator runs on. Rust can compromise the strength of your inclinators rail, which is not good. Many Inclinators are located near the coast which can create maintenance issues in regards to rust. We’ve seen rust so bad that the carriage gets jammed and will not move.

To help minimise rust it’s best to keep your rail gear rack well lubricated. In many instances this doesn’t happen and people end up with rust, and lots of it. Most rust occurs around the rail gear rack. Water gets underneath or between components on the rail and pools, leading to rust. If you need your inclinators gear rack lubricated please contact us for a quote.

If you have rust issues on your inclinators rail we can come and get it back in good working order. If the rust is too deep the strength of the rail can be compromised. We can can weld new metal back into the rail to ensure the rail retains it’s strength.

Removing rust from an inclinators rail is a real process and it’s not an easy task. Some issues that need to be considered are access, paint drying time, and the weather.

This is what we do if the rail doesn’t require welding:

1. Remove the gear rack from the rail

2. Hammer/pick out any rust flake from the rail

3. Wire brush the rail and the underside of the gear rack

4. Grind the rail and the underside of the gear rack

5. Treat the rail and gear rack, if required, with a phosphoric acid based rust treatment

6. Under coat with Cold Gal

7. Finish coat with an enamel paint to your specified colour
